# Claude Duet vs Town: A Brief or a Configured Routine?

> Compare Claude Duet’s daily attention workflow with Town’s saved routines, trigger tiers and channel continuity for recurring client work.

Claude Duet and Town both offer ongoing help with connected work. Duet’s documented entry point is a proactive brief within your Claude context. Town makes the setup of reusable routines, triggers and action modes especially explicit. Choose around the responsibility you want to maintain, not the presence of a chat box.

## Different ways to define recurring help

| Responsibility detail | Claude Duet | Town |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Existing setup to reuse | Claude memory, skills and connectors | Townie profile and connected sources |
| Recurring entry point | Morning brief and updates | Stock or custom routine with a chosen trigger |
| Review location | Main thread, Tasks and completed work in Make | Conversations and saved routine settings |
| Trigger cost question | Shared Claude plan limits | Schedule versus event/calendar access depends on plan |

Anthropic’s [Duet guide](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17631495-get-started-with-claude-duet) supports the Claude workflow. Town’s [routine guide](https://www.town.com/docs/routines) explains choosing the trigger, tools and instructions, while its [plan guide](https://www.town.com/docs/billing/plans) separates daily schedules from live events.

## A new inquiry needs a different response from a weekly recap

Consider a consultant handling incoming client inquiries. A weekly summary may be enough for planning capacity. A promising inquiry arriving just before a deadline may need attention that afternoon. Decide the required timing before comparing products.

With Duet, evaluate whether the brief and subsequent updates surface the inquiry with the decision needed: qualify it, request missing details or decline it. Its advertised ongoing attention is useful only if the result arrives in time and cites the right source.

With Town, define the routine explicitly: which new-email event qualifies, which tools may be used and where the result goes. Its documentation makes the trigger a saved part of the workflow. A daily schedule is not equivalent to responding to an event, so a cheaper scheduled tier may fail the timing requirement even if its summaries are adequate.

For either evaluation, count irrelevant interruptions as well as missed inquiries. These are proposed success criteria, not reported results. Neither product has been measured here for lead conversion or response speed.

## Town’s modes change what repeats

Town’s [Modes & Approvals guide](https://www.town.com/docs/safety/modes-approvals) distinguishes read-only, approval-required and autonomous routine modes, with per-tool controls. Session changes and permanent routine settings are separate. That matters when an inquiry workflow changes from “report opportunities” to “send a first reply.”

Duet’s [launch post](https://claude.com/resources/articles/claude-duet) describes automatic action review. Do not map Town’s named modes onto Duet or infer identical behavior from the word approval. A useful buying question is whether you can understand the saved authority for this exact recurring responsibility.

## Access, channels and price

Duet is a US Pro/Max research preview with a waitlist invitation and shared plan usage. Town lists a free plan, a $15 monthly Starter tier with limited daily schedules, and higher tiers with broader triggers. Its listed $49 Pro rate is per month with annual billing; confirm the live terms. [Town plans](https://www.town.com/docs/billing/plans).

Town also documents [shared context across its channels](https://www.town.com/docs/getting-started/reaching-your-townie). Messaging from different places is therefore not an exclusive argument for Duet. We have not established Town’s local-versus-cloud execution architecture from these guides.

Start with Duet if Claude already holds the context and your priority is a daily attention workflow. Start with Town if an explicit event/routine configuration is the key requirement.
