# Meta Muse vs OpenAI Dots: Goals, Notes and Delegated Work

> Compare Muse’s goals and editable memory with dots’ ongoing responsibilities, saved notes, local connections and separately controlled background tasks.

Muse and OpenAI dots both describe agents that maintain context and continue work between conversations. Muse’s design explanation puts a visible plan, activity and editable memory at the center. Dots’ documentation is especially specific about delegated threads, local connections and the difference between proactive research and authorized actions. Choose by how you want to keep a responsibility understandable over time.

## Compare the ongoing workspace

| What you want to inspect | Meta Muse | OpenAI dots |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Plan and progress | Goals and activity views | Main dot conversation, Activity and delegated threads |
| Lasting context | Readable, editable memory files | Conversation, relevant ChatGPT memory and separate notes |
| Execution environment | Dedicated cloud VM | Cloud computer plus separately connected local computer |
| Background work boundaries | Meta describes scheduled/event work and suggestions | Assigned tasks distinguished from proactive research |

Evidence: [Muse design](https://introducing.muse.ai/), [Muse VM](https://research.meta.ai/blog/security-and-safety-for-ai-agents-our-approach-with-muse), [dots tasks/memory](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/dots/tasks-and-memory) and [computers/apps](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/dots/computers-and-apps). A vendor’s architecture description is not a reliability measurement.

## Maintain a home energy project

Imagine comparing insulation quotes while collecting utility bills and arranging a contractor visit. The project has a long-term objective, changing evidence and tasks that can proceed independently.

For Muse, evaluate whether the Goals view tells you which quote is current and which decision blocks the plan. Correct a household preference in memory, then verify the next proposal reflects it. Editable memory makes correction inspectable; it does not guarantee the model retrieves every relevant entry.

For a dot, inspect how the responsibility is divided into visible tasks. A document comparison might run in the cloud, while a task using local bills can depend on a connected computer. OpenAI states that local access needs the computer online with the ChatGPT app open. Its cloud browser has independent sessions. [Connection guide](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/dots/computers-and-apps).

Ask for a revised comparison after a contractor changes the scope. The useful result is a traceable update, not a second polished document that silently contradicts the first. This is a proposed evaluation for both products, not a result we observed.

## Correcting memory and stopping work are different operations

OpenAI documents a dot’s own notes as separate from ChatGPT saved memory: changing one setting does not necessarily rewrite notes already made. Its [controls guide](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/dots/controls) also separates pausing the main task, stopping delegated tasks and canceling schedules. For the energy project, canceling one quote comparison should not be assumed to cancel a contractor follow-up.

Muse’s design post describes memory editing and activity visibility. Do not infer that its stop controls work exactly like dots’ or that either product can recall a message already sent. Judge the particular project state you can inspect.

## Eligibility and allowances

Muse’s [launch announcement](https://about.fb.com/news/2026/09/introducing-muse-personal-ai-agent/) describes a US rollout and free/subscription access without a detailed paid allowance here. The [dots overview](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/dots?nav=overview) lists gradual eligible Pro access outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland, with Business Premium and Enterprise rollouts worldwide. Enterprise access must be enabled by an administrator.

Dots conversations and delegated Work/Codex tasks have different usage treatment. Confirm the deeper-work allowance shown to your account; do not assume a separate dots price or unlimited work. Likewise, a Muse signup offer does not establish universal regional access.

Try Muse for a visible goal plan and editable context. Try dots for its documented coordination of separate tasks and connected environments.
