# Meta Muse vs Town: Goal Plans or Triggered Routines?

> Compare Muse’s evolving goal plans with Town’s explicit routines and trigger tiers for coordinating a volunteer project and its recurring updates.

Muse is a useful candidate when the plan itself keeps changing. Town is a useful candidate when you can describe a responsibility as a repeatable routine with a clear trigger and output. Both describe personalized background help; the decision is how you want to express and inspect the continuing work.

## Organize around a goal or a trigger

| Setup choice | Meta Muse | Town |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Describe the recurring need | Goal with a plan you revisit | Stock or custom routine |
| Understand the next action | Goals and activity views | Saved trigger, tools and instructions |
| Correct persistent context | Editable memory files described | Review the profile built during onboarding |
| Channel continuity | Mobile/web clients and WhatsApp announced | Multiple channels with shared context documented |

## Coordinate a volunteer fundraiser

A fundraiser has an evolving plan: confirm a venue, recruit helpers and decide what to do if registrations are lower than expected. It also has predictable reporting work: every Friday, summarize confirmed registrations and unanswered volunteer requests.

Muse’s Goals view is relevant to the first problem. Evaluate whether the plan makes dependencies visible when the venue date changes. Ask which decisions remain yours and inspect the activity since the last update. A view labeled Goals is useful only if it helps you understand what is still unresolved; we have not measured its success at that task.

Town’s routine setup is relevant to the second problem. Specify Friday’s trigger, the permitted registration source and the output destination. Its [routine guide](https://www.town.com/docs/routines) describes configuring triggers, tools and instructions conversationally. If the requirement becomes “notify me when a registration is canceled,” the trigger changes; it is no longer just a weekly report.

That gives this comparison a concrete dividing line: do you mainly need to revise the plan, or repeat a well-defined process? Many projects need both, so check the weaker half of your preferred product rather than judging only its best demonstration.

## A trigger can change the price

Town’s [plan guide](https://www.town.com/docs/billing/plans) lists Starter at $15 billed monthly with limited daily schedules. Event and calendar triggers need Pro or an eligible paid team plan; the listed $49 Pro monthly rate assumes annual billing. Credits and task complexity affect usage. A free Weekly Briefing is not unlimited custom automation.

Muse’s announcement mentions free use and subscriptions but does not establish a comparable credit table. Confirm the actual offer before making a cost claim. It is not possible to price the fundraiser fairly by assigning Muse a guessed unlimited allowance.

## Place and authority are separate questions

Meta documents Muse’s dedicated cloud VM and Sentinel in its [safety architecture](https://research.meta.ai/blog/security-and-safety-for-ai-agents-our-approach-with-muse). Town documents [routine action modes](https://www.town.com/docs/safety/modes-approvals), including a read-only mode that can report to you while blocking external changes. We have not established Town’s local-versus-cloud architecture from these pages.

For the fundraiser, distinguish a registration summary sent to you from a message sent to all volunteers. That is a project-specific change in audience, not simply a more frequent report.

Choose Muse to evaluate a changing personal plan. Choose Town to evaluate a configured, recurring process with explicit trigger costs.
