Claude Duet is Anthropic’s new proactive personal agent. If you already use Claude and want help keeping track of ongoing work, it belongs on your shortlist. Agentastic is worth considering when your starting point is work inside Mac apps, with context and tools you choose.
Checked October 23, 2026. This is a comparison of documentation and Agentastic’s implementation, not a hands-on Duet review. Anthropic announced Duet on October 21 as a research preview for professionals and small business owners. Access and features can change.
What is Claude Duet?
Duet brings priorities and follow-ups back to you between requests. Anthropic describes a morning brief and updates from connected apps, alongside delegated projects. Its product page offers the waitlist. That makes it a different entry point from asking Claude for a single deliverable.
Duet is not a new name for every Claude feature. Cowork’s task workflow has been combining with Claude chat. Duet has a separate research-preview access process. See our existing Cowork comparison for that task-oriented choice.
Access, price and where work runs
| Question | Claude Duet | Agentastic |
|---|---|---|
| Can I start today? | US Pro or Max account plus waitlist invitation | Check current access and plans |
| What pays for work? | Included during the preview, sharing Claude plan usage limits | Plan and chosen model/provider affect cost |
| Where does it execute? | Its own cloud computer and browser | Mac tools run on your Mac. Hosted sessions are a separate environment |
| What context carries forward? | Claude memory, skills and connectors | Selected context and editable memory files on the Mac |
| How do I review progress? | Tasks tab, with finished work in Make | Review the agent’s conversation and outputs |
Duet rows come from Anthropic’s getting-started guide. Team and Enterprise are not included in this preview. Joining the waitlist does not promise a date. Claude pricing lists Pro at $20 monthly and Max from $100 monthly, before applicable taxes. A subscription is not an invitation or an unlimited Duet allowance.
Agentastic rows are grounded in the first-task guide, model setup and memory guide. Mac files should not be assumed to appear in another client’s conversation automatically.
Compare a real responsibility
Suppose you manage a small studio. You need to notice late invoices, prepare tomorrow’s client meeting and decide which replies need your attention.
For Duet, evaluate whether its brief surfaces the right decisions. Check the underlying email and invoice before approving anything. A useful brief should distinguish an overdue payment from an email merely mentioning an invoice. We have not tested the accuracy of that distinction.
For Agentastic, start with a smaller request in the launcher: “Read the selected client notes and prepare tomorrow’s meeting decisions. Draft follow-ups for review.” Add the files and permitted tools it needs using the context controls. Run it once before using the scheduler. The local daemon must be running for local schedules.
The comparison is whether the product catches the decision in time, shows its evidence and leaves you a usable next step. Count corrections as well as completed tasks.
How Duet reviews actions
Anthropic’s launch explanation describes separated credentials, automatic action review and checks on sensitive information. These are vendor descriptions of safeguards, not proof that mistakes cannot happen. “Checks before acting” also does not mean a person clicks every tool call.
For the studio workflow, that makes the decision point concrete: did the brief identify a late payment, or has a reminder already been sent? Duet’s ongoing attention model is useful when the brief itself is the starting point. Agentastic’s selected-context workflow fits when you already have the client notes open and want to decide the next task yourself.
Which alternative fits?
Choose Duet first if your context already lives in Claude, you qualify for access and you want its proactive workflow. Consider Agentastic when you want to bring selected app context into a Mac task and inspect or correct the memory used for it.
For a wider shortlist, compare Meta Muse, OpenAI dots and Town. Our personal-agent comparison hub covers the full set. The proactive-agent guide explains the mechanisms behind the label.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Claude Duet available to everyone?
- No. As checked October 23, 2026, the research preview requires a US Claude account on Pro or Max and an invitation from the waitlist.
- Is Claude Duet the same as Claude Cowork?
- Duet is a proactive-agent research preview with its own access process. Cowork’s task capabilities are being combined with Claude chat. They should not be treated as interchangeable names.
