The best personal AI agent for you depends on the responsibility you want to hand over. Start with the sources it must read, where the work runs and the decisions you want to keep. A subscription you already have may be enough.

Checked October 23, 2026. This guide is written by the Agentastic team using official vendor pages and our own source. It is not an independent ranking or a hands-on benchmark. Unknown means we could not establish a detail from the sources reviewed.

These are different starting points, not exclusive capabilities. For example, cloud agents can offer local connections, and a desktop agent can offer scheduled work. Read the individual comparison before treating a row as a complete feature list.

Compare any two of the seven agents

This index covers all 21 unique pairs among Agentastic, Claude Duet, Meta Muse, Grok Bot, Instinct, Town and OpenAI dots. Each pair has one comparison page, regardless of which name you search first. Choose the responsibility closest to yours; the links are not rankings. Cowork remains a separate task-workflow article outside this seven-product matrix.

Duet and Cowork answer different questions

Duet is the fresh launch in this batch: Anthropic announced the research preview on October 21. If you are looking for a Claude assistant that brings priorities back to you, start with the Duet guide.

If you want to delegate a particular document or research task in Claude, use the Cowork comparison and its current official setup links. The shared vendor name does not make the access rules identical.

Proactive does not mean unbounded

A schedule, a service event and an agent deciding to resume work are different triggers. “Works in the background” also leaves a question unanswered: on which computer?

Before choosing, ask the product to explain the saved responsibility, the next run and the notification destination. If it needs your local files, check what happens when the computer is offline. Our proactive-agent explainer maps these mechanisms to Duet, Muse and Agentastic.

Compare memory and permissions separately

Memory can help the agent use your preferred meeting hours. It cannot authorize sending an invitation. Likewise, a connected messaging channel need not grant access to every conversation in that service.

Check whether you can inspect and correct remembered information. Then inspect the actual account permissions. Agentastic documents editable Mac memory, including limits on automatic availability across clients. It is not the only product with editable context: see the Muse and Town comparisons.

For any product, distinguish preparing a draft from sending it. Ask which actions can proceed automatically, which are reviewed by software and which require a human decision. A general safety statement cannot answer every one of those questions.

A useful comparison takes one real task

Choose a small responsibility you can judge: tomorrow’s meeting brief, a weekly status report or an appointment shortlist. Give each product the same permitted sources and a clear output format. Record missing information, corrections, time spent reviewing and the cost shown for the work.

Do not begin by connecting every account. A narrow trial makes it easier to tell whether the agent found the right evidence and respected the review boundary. If your existing subscription handles it, there may be no reason to add another service.

For Agentastic, start with one Mac task, add context deliberately and inspect the result before saving a schedule. Check current access and plans. Choose the product that reduces work you actually do, with controls you can understand.
